  • Amarillo Area Mental Health Consumers (AAMHC) was formed in 1996 by a group of peers with mental health diagnoses
who were interested in learning more about empowerment and advocacy. In the year 2002, we became a satellite organization
providing peer support services under the auspices of Texas Mental Health Consumers, a non-profit organization out of
Austin, Texas. As the organization evolved we became an independent peer support recovery center funded by the Texas
    Health and Human Services Commission.

  • The primary mission of Amarillo Area Mental Health Consumers is to organize, encourage, educate, and train people with mental
illness to advocate for themselves and support each other in their recovery. The organization's purpose is to encourage and train
mental health consumers to be productive, functional, valued citizens within their community.
